Fear of public speaking is listed as the number one fear in the US, and number three in the UK.
In most studies, people are more afraid of public speaking than death.
Imagine that.
Or, if you’re one of the majority of people who list it there, you don’t have to imagine it. You live it.
Most people don’t know this about me, but until my late 20s, I was incredibly shy.
I was very social with people I knew, but I had a crippling shyness that kept me from meeting new people, advancing in my careers and, though I could always sing on stage easily, from public speaking.
That changed when I let it go with a 15 minute NLP technique, but even with the shyness gone, I still had a hard time composing myself on stage.
All of that melted away when I took Trainer’s Training.

Do you know what kind of motivation you have?
Most people don’t think about it, but there are actually different kinds of motivation – two, to be exact: “Toward” motivations and “Away” motivations.
The common analogy is “the Carrot vs the Stick.” While that’s a well known analogy, most people don’t realize that it does describe an actual personality trait. Nor do they take the time to figure out which one motivates the people they interact with.
These motivation styles are an example of another NLP Meta Program called Motivation Direction Filter (refer to my previous post on NLP Meta Programs if you haven’t read it yet for other metaprograms).

I’ll bet you’ve been diligently wishing for your new life ever since.
Maybe you’re sitting in your recliner with your hands on an imaginary steering wheel trying to attract a new car.
Perhaps you’re going to your mailbox wholly expecting with heart and mind to find piles of money in the form of checks, rather than bills.
Or maybe you’re changing the paintings in your home to attract that passionate romantic lover you’ve been waiting a lifetime for.
The fact is, none of that works.
I’m sorry to burst your bubble. The Secret is an amazing movie, and it’s incredibly inspirational, but they left out one, big, important step…

Of course I do!
I remember when I was in NLP Trainer’s Training. We covered nested loops quite a bit. It was amazing. I know you’ve been in a situation where everything that’s said is of the utmost importance, and you focus your attention on just one thing. Me, I know this stuff is riveting. And, as we continued sitting in our chairs, wondering about nested loops, soaking all this up, the most amazing thing happened...

The mentality is that there’s some kind of “magic bullet” that will automatically transform their life without any kind of investment or effort.
Unfortunately, there isn’t. But there is something you can do right now from the field of Neuro-Linguistic Programming (also known as NLP) to jump-start your success...

Would that be useful to you?
Read the rest of this entry »We’ve all heard rumors that governmental figures are using “mass hypnosis” to influence and sway the people of our great nations.
Most of the time, this sounds like some silly conspiracy theory. But after all the recent news about the elections, I think it's time to find out if there's any truth to the rumors.
I sat down to analyze the speech patterns of the top three candidates at the time of this writing (Mar 08): Hilary Clinton, John McCain and Barack Obama.
Of course, without something to compare them to, numbers are just numbers. So I wanted to get some radically clear benchmarks for contrast. I picked one person who I'm fairly certain has no hypnotic skills – Bill Gates of Microsoft – and one who was notorious for his ability to hypnotize and influence the masses – Adolf Hitler.
In testing for hypnotic ability, I looked for these specific language patterns in a 500 word excerpt from each subject:

Those words are ominous, aren’t they?
It seems that every time an election comes up where it looks like the non-incumbent party will win, we are in a “recession.”
We had the Carter/Reagan recession. The Bush/Clinton recession. The Clinton/Bush recession. And now the Bush/???? “recession.” And each blames it on the other.
It’s all so politically convenient.
It’s all so damning.
But, who is it that decides that we’re recessing?

What you probably don’t realize is that the above sentence is hypnotic in nature.
When we talk to people, for the most part, we are trying to influence them. We’re taking a concept from our mind and trying to communicate it in words that will hopefully make the same concept in their mind...
