Five Tips to Attract New Clients Like Moths to a Flame

When you talk to potential clients, do you find that it’s an uphill battle to convince them that YOU can help them change their lives these days?

Even though I don’t advertise (and haven’t for years), I still get a landslide of calls each month from people willing to pay me three- to four times the amount that other practitioners and coaches charge in my area.

I don’t say this to impress you, but to impress upon you the fact that YOU can also have prospects practically hunting you down and begging you to take them as clients.

Just imagine your phone ringing off the hook. On the other end of the line are rabid prospects hunting down any morsel of change they can scavenge.

By the time you finish this article, you’ll know what steps to take to run your own successful practice.

Five Red-Hot Tips to Attract New Clients

1. Pick a Niche and Dominate It
Trying to sell to “everybody” is a losing proposition. Sure, large companies like Pepsi and Google can afford to market to everyone, but unless you have a spare billion hiding in your sock drawer, you had better start smaller.

Successful marketers know that the best way to build a business is to have one message and to say it well. You must speak the language of your potential client and inspire them to buy.

Pick a niche that resonates with you. What is your passion? What excites you? That may answer the question of what niche to target.

Once you have a niche, find out what they know, what they love and what they crave, and the speak to it.

2. Become Part of the Niche Community
Marketing and business have changed immensely in the last decade.

It’s no longer just about bottom-line, growth and profit. More than ever before, it’s about connection.

These days, people are hanging onto their money more than ever. They’re simply not willing to give it away to strangers.

We consumers have been burned by strangers running anonymous, faceless corporations with mediocre products and services, too often.

To truly succeed in business today, you have to connect with people.

This means, participate in the niche. Become a part of the community.

Before the Internet, this took a lot of work, going to chambers of commerce, networking events, charity events and more.

Now, thanks to the internet, you can speak to multiple communities in a niche without ever leaving the comfort of your office chair.

Join niche-related bulletin boards, chat rooms and groups. Add people in your niche to your friends lists on your favorite social media sites. Attend local meetup groups and more.

The more you’re seen, the less of a stranger you become.

3. Give More Than You Sell
Surprise! The Internet has changed everything.

People are bombarded with so much free information, they often don’t know why they should pay for anything. People can now go on sites like fiverr.com and get hypnosis, coaching or advice “sessions” for just five bucks, so why pay hundreds?

The good news for you (and me) is that most of that stuff is total junk.

To really rise to the top in today’s business world, you must give. When your niche sees you giving things of high value, they will flock to your offerings over and over again.

The trick is to give without a catch. That’s right, give with no expectation of return. People these days can smell manipulation like a shark smells blood in the water.

The more you give, the more you’re known. The more you’re known, the more you’re trusted and people will be drawn to you.

4. Become a Celebrity
With all this recognition and trust comes an opportunity to take it to the next level.

Joe Vitale (The Secret, Attractor Factor, The Key, Buying Tranes, etc) created his success by embracing the idea of celebrity status. Many people now buy his products, simply because they’re from Joe.

Celebrities are people who are known and celebrated for their successes and contributions, and it’s easier to build celebrity status now than ever.

Start a blog, write a newsletter, build an active group or even a great Twitter feed. Record a regular podcast or vodcast, begin a review site, or collaborate on an independent movie. Write a magazine article, or write a book.

Even better, get a professional photo and video shoot to create the image that you are celebrity-worthy, attracting all kinds of other celebrity opportunities.

These are just some of the things you can do right now that will begin to build your status as a trustworthy, niche-worthy name.

5. Learn Basic Marketing and Business Skills
Finally, embrace the idea of marketing.

Many small business owners I know report that they “hate” marketing. If you hate marketing, then you hate business, because all business is marketing.

If you’re truly committed to making your business successful, then you must be committed to learning marketing.

While it may seem like a daunting task, you actually can learn these tools easily and effortlessly, in the right environment.

Overcoming fear of public speaking

Fear of public speaking is listed as the number one fear in the US, and number three in the UK.

In most studies, people are more afraid of public speaking than death.

Imagine that.

Or, if you’re one of the majority of people who list it there, you don’t have to imagine it.

You live it.

Most people don’t know this about me, but until my late 20s, I was incredibly shy.

I was very social with people I knew, but I had a crippling shyness that kept me from meeting new people, advancing in my careers and, though I could always sing on stage easily, from public speaking.

That changed when I let it go with a 15 minute NLP technique, but even with the shyness gone, I still had a hard time composing myself on stage.

All of that melted away when I took Trainer’s Training.  Essentially, Trainer’s Training turns you into a confidence machine, so that any time you need to present in front of people, it becomes easy and effortless.  Plus, you learn things like group rapport, the Charisma Pattern, the Vulnerability Pattern, and how to put massive numbers of people into trance, and more.  Plus, you become certified to teach NLP, Hypnosis and TIME Techniques to others.

So, I’m going to give you a few pointers to help you eliminate stage fright on your own.

  1. Turn that Frown Upside Down
    Or rather, turn that fear on it’s ear.  We’re going to turn that fear or nervousness into excitement.

    Emotions are simply energy in motion.  They don’t stay still, otherwise we wouldn’t feel them.  So, the next time you’re feeling fear or nervousness, notice where it starts and where it goes.  You’ll find that it starts in some location of the body, moves through to another, and then seems to exit your body and loops back.  Is it spinning front-to-back, or side-to-side?  Is it moving clockwise or counter clockwise.  Notice the movement and close your eyes.  Now visualize it.  Look at what color it is.

    Good, move it outside of your body and begin to slow it down until it stops and reverses, spinning in the opposite direction.  As it begins spinning, notice it change to another color, like blue.  Now put it back into your body and spin it faster and faster and faster.  Notice how much better this emotion feels as excitement!

  2. Focus Outside – Not Inside
    One of the reasons people become nervous during public speaking is that they’re focusing too much on their internal world.  When you shift your focus to the outside world and connect with your audience, the anxiety, fear, nervousness and stress of public speaking simply fall away.
  3. Develop a powerful anchor
    Once you’re up on stage, it’s too hard to think of things like spinning the emotion, consciously.  You need the powerful, confident feeling to come up automatically.  This is where anchors come in handy.

    Anchoring is a technique you can learn in Neuro-Linguistic Programming trainings that is borrowed from Ivan Pavlov.  Remember learning about him?  He’s the guy in 1904 who found out that you can make a dog salivate with a tuning fork just by ringing the tuning fork over and over again when the dog is salivating for food.  The repetition causes a neurological connection between the stimulus and the response.

    Thankfully, humans are able to set up these anchors much faster than the dogs (and we don’t drool as much!)

    When you think about creating an anchor for stage presence, decide on what positive states you’d like to be able to recall instantly, such as confidence, power, charismatic and happy.  Then you can anchor each positive state in the same place, and with a single touch, it’s like flipping a switch.  All of those feelings come back at once.

Stage fright is a fear that grips many, but that can actually be overcome easily with a few NLP techniques.

Every-day hypnotic language

“So you’re sitting there, looking at a computer screen or maybe a printout, reading this tip while your eyes scan across the page taking in each letter, each and every word, becoming even more curious about hypnosis with each and every breath you take.”

What you probably don’t realize is that the above sentence is hypnotic in nature.

When we talk to people, for the most part, we are trying to influence them. We’re taking a concept from our mind and trying to communicate it in words that will hopefully make the same concept in their mind. This doesn’t always work. Sometimes, the other people won’t listen, no matter how good your concept is. Here are a few from my life that I can think of. Maybe you can relate:

  • Telling the boss you need a raise or a vacation.
  • Telling your children they need to brush their teeth.
  • Telling the officer your speeding was just an accident.
  • Telling your parents you’ll be at the in-laws for that holiday this year.

So, how would you like to be able to deliver your communication in a way that meets the least amount of resistance? That would be useful, wouldn’t it? Of course it would! And the answer is hypnotic language.

In this issue, we’re talking about the hypnotic language pattern called, “Pacing Current Reality.”

The concept is really simple. State a chain of things to the other person that are undeniably true, then state what you desire.

What this does is create a repetitiveness in the other party to continually say, “Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, etc”

In my opening line, you’re probably sitting there (yes), looking at a computer screen or maybe a printout (yes), reading this tip (obviously, yes) while your eyes are scanning the page (yes), taking in each letter (yes), each and every word (yes) – and here comes the part I want you to agree with – becoming even more curious about hypnosis with each and every breath you take (YES!).

See how easy it is? Now, some of you might be thinking this would sound funny in regular conversation.

Let me assure you it doesn’t.

This technique is not exclusive to hypnosis. It has been borrowed by the sales industry and they call it “Yes sets.” Not only is it used in everyday conversations, it’s very powerful! Try it!

Let’s see how the above examples work now, using this every-day hypnotic language:

  • Joe, you’re the boss. It’s your job to manage us employees and to reward us when we excel. There’s extra money in the budget this year, and I’ve done an excellent job. I’d like you to consider giving me a raise.
  • Timmy, I know you want to go to Disneyland tomorrow. It’s past 8pm, you’ve got your PJs on, and your TV show is over. Why don’t you go brush your teeth and crawl into bed.
  • Sir, I’ve realized that I was speeding. I know it’s your job to keep people safe, and you pulled me over for a very good reason. You can see my record is clean and I am a very good driver. I hope you can let me off with a warning this time.
  • Mom, Dad. I hate your turkey. (Just kidding)
